Artificial grass has not always enjoyed the best of reputations. Almost lime green in appearance, it has looked too lush and too green, meaning it sticks out from its surroundings, looking anything but natural.
In hotter climes, however, artificial grass has been the perfect addition, turning vast swathes of dusty land into lush green meadows. Here in the UK, ow that there are various shades to choose from, we have fallen in love with artificial grass.
And here’s why…
#1 No need for watering, weeding or mowing
Who doesn’t love the appearance of a delightful green and well-manicured lawn? But these lawns seem to exist everywhere else but our own garden. Full of patches and weeds, the weekly summer ritual of mowing the lawn is far from therapeutic for some people.
With artificial grass there are no muddy patches in winter or dust bows in summer; there is no wedding and no mowing. Perhaps the occasional sweep with a brush or, as has been known, the odd vacuum…
#2 No insecticides nor pesticides
As well as weeding and watering, for your lawn to look super-gorgeous you need to spend some time on fertilising it too, as well as re-seeding and aerating it in spring. If this is on the bottom of your to-do list, then artificial grass is perfect because it needs none of these things.
If – and only IF – correctly installed, an artificial grass lawn will last for a long, long time. Even with the wear and tear of kids playing on it, the pets running round on it, the BBQs in the summer, the afternoons relaxing in the sun… your artificial lawn can take it all in its stride, remaining green and lush. And, when you buy the best quality product for your budget, the weather doesn’t fade it either.
#4 Safe for the kids
With a synthetic lawn, the lack of chemicals added to it to make it a lush, green meadow are not needed, so you won’t have pesky pesticides, fertilisers and other chemicals hanging around. You can also keep the lawn relatively clean, meaning you have confidence the kids are picking up bugs and bacteria. In fact, the safety element of artificial grass means it is now being used in public environments too, such as parks and sporting facilities.
#5 A hygienic addition to a pet household too!
The lawn is often the place that the dog goes to the loo, thus along with the weekly chore of mowing the lawn, there is the daily hassle of picking up dog poop. With an artificial lawn, you may still have the daily hassle of the dog poop run but, you can clean the spot with warm water and a mild detergent to leave it hygienically clean – no residue hanging around in the blades of grass.
It is hard to think of a reason why artificial grass is not suitable for any home…
