Patio or decking - what IS the difference?! (And which one is right for Blantyre customers?)
Our gardens should be a haven of peace and tranquillity. Relaxing in the warmth of the summer sun, the sweet scent of nearby plants should drift past us, as we recline. It should also be a delightful place where we entertain guests, watch the children play and so on. In fact, our garden should be a place we enjoy being…
But all too often, it can be a very different story; with a lawn that looks threadbare and yellow, it is a place that is not so welcoming. The ravages of weather, children playing and boisterous pets have not been a kind combination.
Inevitably, the garden falls in to a state that means we avoid it, despite our best efforts to make it look good – and keep it that way.
Considering decking for your Blantyre garden... or is it a patio?
Thus, when the lawn can no longer be described as lush and green, many homeowners decide ‘enough is enough’ and decide decking is the way forward for their Blantyre garden… or is it a patio?
Is there a difference?
Patio and decking and often two terms that are used interchangeably, but there is a subtle difference.
Patios tend to be connected to a property and are made from stone, concrete or other hard materials to give the appearance of a courtyard, which essentially is what a patio is.
Decking at Blantyre properties, on the other hand, tend to be traditionally made from wood – although recent modern technological and manufacturing advances mean that there is a composite material now on the market – and are a raised platform. Patios tend to ground level but decking can be anything from a few inches above the ground, to several feet.
Decking is also not always connected to a property and is an effective way of utilising space in the garden that represents a difficult care; for example, gardens that have steep banks and slopes will often have decking built out, over and above them to create a useful, flat platform.
Is one better than the other?
In essence, no as they offer similar advantages but the situation in which they can be placed can differ, therefore some Blantyre customers opt for decking over a patio.
Decking – a great addition
There is not much that cannot be done with decking. It can be as big or as small as you want or need it to be; they can be far more complex and ornate that a simply straight forward platform. They can have steps and different levels and decking at Blantyre can also be any shape, from oval platforms to irregular shaped spaces that look simply divine.
