Decking - Hamilton

S&D provide a full garden decking supply and building service to customers in Hamilton.

Any size? Any shape? How to amazing decking at your Hamilton home

Making improvements to the garden should be approached with the same meticulous planning that you would take on an interior improvement. Adding a structure to the garden takes thought, planning and clever design to ensure that you get the final product that you want and need.

But what do you need to consider?

  • Budget

Perhaps the most important – and limiting – aspect for many decking projects at Hamilton is financial.

Decide on a firm budget, keeping 10% as of the final budget as an emergency slush fund, and work within it confines. You can get the decking you want and need for your Hamilton home even within a tight budget.

  • Don’t skimp on the foundation and ground preparation

Depending on how and where the decking at your Hamilton home is being built, it is imperative that the foundation and ground work is prepared to a high standard before the final decking and any handrails, balustrades and so on are added.

The foundations provide the firm, stable basis on which the decking is built and so it makes sense to ensure that this is completed correctly. You also need to have some kind of weed suppressant underneath the final layer, which can be plastic, permeable type sheeting, along with sand and a top layer of gravel.

  • Size

Although you may think that a vast decking is the answer, you may be surprised to learn that keeping the deck in scale and proportion with the garden is important. On one hand you want it big enough to be able to accommodate what you want and need it to do, but on the other you don’t want it to dwarf the garden. Nor do you want it to look too small, or it will look ‘lost’ in the garden.

There is no hard and fast rule about deciding the size of the decking but you need it to be able to accommodate what you want to use it for.

  • Purpose

And finally, an often overlooked part of the design process is what you intend to use the decking for. For example, socialising on the decking can mean the addition of lights and a fire pit could be useful. If it is a place for the children to play, you may not include these things.

How the decking at your Hamilton looks is really down to you, your likes and dislikes, budget and size of garden. How will yours look?
