Do you have kitchen envy?

The kitchen in any home is the heart of the home. It is where we gather at the start of the working day and the place we gather at the end; we discuss family crises here and as well as announce good news. We celebrate in the kitchen and we commiserate in the kitchen.

It is also the place we cook and the place we sometimes eat.

It is also the room in someone else’s home that we sometimes look on with envy; a vast, sweeping room with the latest gadgets, everything put away in its own space and the must-have island at its centre. We leaving, sighing, wishing we had a kitchen just like that…

And so, with such heavy responsibility weighing on our Glasgow kitchens, it is no surprise to find when it comes to upgrading or replacing our kitchen, we need to look at the design efficiency; is it doing everything it needs to do and is it doing it well.

If you need any more persuasion, kitchens add value to your Glasgow property too – and it will clinch that elusive buyer if you are selling.

But, you MUST get it right or it is money down the drain…

i. Asses your kitchen

Before you do anything, before you choose your cupboards and see your must have sink and taps, you need to take an objective look at your current kitchen and ask yourself WHAT needs to change and WHY.

ii. Brand new kitchen or Remodel?

It may be falling apart but it may be the best layout for your kitchen. Rather than spending thousands on completely ripping it out, why not look at remodelling? Slightly cheaper but still as disruptive, it might save you some cash meaning you can have that wonderful fridge unit after all…

iii. Budget

No kitchen pep-talk would be complete without a nod to the budget. Your imagination may be endless but your budget probably isn’t. We advise keeping a small contingency fund (usually 10% of your overall budget) to cover the unforeseen, niggling bits that need sorting as the work happens.
